PERFORMANCE VOICE WORKSHOP
The Performance Voice Workshop will offer an opportunity for the students to develop their performance skills by combining solo and ensemble pieces from the musical Les Miserables. It will also improve their music reading and form part of fun master classes given by the instructors.
It is very important for the students to learn or improve their music reading skills, not only to ease the music learning process, but also to help the students create a discipline that will help them academically. The note reading process aids the steady tempo sensation to become a fast reader for daily reading skills. Therefore, a focus will be given to ear training and note reading using syllables (Do-Re-Mi system) taught with games and fun activities appropriate for the age group and genders. This experience will add personal stage confidence and will give and opportunity to share a stage with other performers. Master classes will be given specifically for voice focusing in the students’ age proper technique. Breathing, projection, and posture will be taught to produce a healthy and beautiful sound.
At the end of the vocal program, parents will be delighted when seeing the performers being able to show a choir and solo piece with proper and wonderful singing thanks to the master classes given and their musical education improvement.
*One week Monday – Thursday, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, July 11 - 14
*Special performance on Friday July 15.
*Tuition $125 per week.
PERFORMANCE PIANO WORKSHOP
The Summer Camp for Pianists will focus on piano performance as part of an ensemble. For the intermediate and advanced levels, students will have the opportunity to learn about early popular styles such as blues, rhythm and blues, boogie-woogie, early rock n’ roll and jazz. Students will learn about the origins of these styles and how the combined melodic and harmonic capabilities of the piano played a role in their development. The use of basic chords (Major and Minor) along with more advanced chords (6ths, 7ths, Augmented, Diminished, etc.) will be incorporated into the music according to the style. The use of “swing” rhythms, walking bass patterns, pentatonic scales, and other aspects of the music theory of these styles will also be taught.
Students at the early and beginner levels will also have the opportunity to participate in ensembles. Their repertoire will expand on their current knowledge of classical music and have them performing in small keyboard ensembles, or “keyboard orchestras”. Students will explore the various sounds (string, brass, woodwind, percussion, etc.) offered in modern digital keyboards and use them in different combinations to perform selected pieces. Students will learn to play as part of a group (as opposed to their usual “solo” performance) and learn how to follow a conductor so they can perform as a coherent, integrated unit.
At the end of the program, parents will be delighted when seeing the performers being able to show an ensemble and/or solo piece thanks to the master classes given and their musical education improvement.
*One week Monday – Thursday, 1:00 to 3:00 pm, July 18 - 21
*Special performance on Friday 22.
*Tuition $125 per week.
